Privacy Policy

Bernum Technologies (“Bernum,” “we,” “us”) operates bernum.ca and provides web development and digital marketing services. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with, and your rights over it. It is written to comply with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

1. Information We Collect

You provide to us (via forms)

Name, email, phone, company or website (if given), and the content of your message.

Collected automatically when you visit our site

  • Device and browser data (IP address, browser, OS, device type, language)
  • Visit data (pages viewed, time on page, clicks, scroll behaviour, referring site, timestamps)
  • Campaign data (UTM parameters and advertising click IDs such as fbclid and gclid)
  • Session and visitor identifiers we generate to distinguish visits
  • Form interaction data (starts, completions, abandonments)
  • Cookies and pixel data set by third-party analytics and advertising platforms (see Section 9)

2. How We Use It

We use your information to:

  • Respond to inquiries and deliver the services you request
  • Send transactional and service-related communications
  • Analyze and improve site performance
  • Measure and optimize our advertising on Meta and Google, including retargeting and building custom or lookalike audiences
  • Prevent fraud and meet legal obligations

We do not use your information for any other purpose without your consent.

3. Legal Basis and Consent

We rely on:

  • Express consent — e.g., submitting a contact form
  • Implied consent — essential site functionality
  • Opt-in consent — for non-essential cookies and advertising tracking, collected through our cookie notice when you first visit

4. Who We Share It With

We do not sell your personal information.

Service providers (hosting, email delivery, CRM) process information on our behalf under contract, only for the purposes we specify.

Analytics and advertising platforms we use, which act as independent data controllers:

  • Google Analytics & Google Ads (Google LLC) — measures traffic, conversions, and runs remarketing. Google Privacy Policy
  • Meta Pixel and Meta Conversions API (Meta Platforms, Inc.) — measures Facebook and Instagram advertising and builds audiences. Email and phone are hashed before being shared through the Conversions API. Meta Privacy Policy

We may also disclose information when required by law or in connection with a business transfer (merger, acquisition, sale of assets), with notice where possible.

Your information may be stored on servers in Canada, the United States, or other countries operated by our providers. Data stored outside Canada may be subject to foreign laws. We use HTTPS/TLS encryption, access controls, and secure hosting to protect your information.

5. How Long We Keep It

  • Leads and inquiries: up to 24 months after last contact
  • Customer records: length of the business relationship plus reasonable time for legal, tax, and accounting requirements (up to 7 years)
  • Site analytics: up to 24 months, then deleted or anonymized
  • Third-party platform data (Google, Meta): per their own retention policies

We use cookies and similar technologies for four purposes:

Under PIPEDA, you can request to:

  • Access the information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Withdraw consent or opt out of advertising tracking
  • Delete your information (subject to legal and contractual limits)

Email privacy@bernum.ca with your request. We respond within 30 days. We may verify your identity first.
